13 GODDESSES IN 13 WEEKS CHALLENGE! 

Prompt is: EGYPTIAN.

I chose NUT.

Nut is a Sky Goddess, mother of Isis, Osiris, Seth and Nephthys.

She is usually represented as a naked woman arching over the Earth.

Protector of the dead and barrier against the forces of chaos.

I am very happy of how I depicted her.

The session of SoulCollage opened a door! It's been quite a time since my last collage, so I decided to join an art challenge on Instagram and use intuitive collage in all the pieces.

13 Goddesses Challenge - Week #5: NATIVE AMERICAN - SEDNA, Teaching Mixedmedia & Women Unleashed Online Retreat

Last one has been a creatively busy week!

First of all I have been asked to teach a couple of mini intuitive mixedmedia classes to some very talented teenagers. 

For privacy I won't publish their artwork, but I can publish mine. :)

Themes were

Alice in Wonderland

The girls were very happy and told me they will come again. Wow!! :)

On Monday I decided to attend an amazing FREE online retreat called

WOMEN UNLEASHED

There are a lot of teachers and it is helping me a lot.

Prompt is NATIVE AMERICAN.

I chose 

SEDNA

She is a Goddess of Inuit mythology.

She is a beautiful woman who is drowned by her father, becoming a sea goddess worshipped by fishermen. 

She is the ruler of Life and Death.

This is my vision of Sedna:

The whales are collaged. I drew the shapes on scrapbooking colored paper, cut them and glued them.

13 Goddesses Challenge - Week #4: SEMITIC - LILITH

I can't believe it's been one month already since we started 

13 GODDESSES IN 13 WEEKS CHALLENGE!

 The prompt for this week is: Semitic

I chose Goddess 

LILITH

Although her myth originated in Mesopotamian religion,  we mostly know her from Jewish Mythology.

Lilith is known as a Demon and as Adam's first wife, the one who refuses to submit to male supremacy and, thus, is banished and replaced by Eve. She then becomes a demon.

There are various myths linked to this "Wild Goddess", but they all agree on her being a dangerous woman.

Her name can be translated as "female night being" or "female night demon".

What I love of Lilith's myths is that She is a woman who frightens men, especially the patriarchal-style ones. She can be seen as the Mother of Feminism.

Here is my Lilith.

I glued some scrap paper on my page and gessoed it.

Started my sketch.

Being a creature of the night, I colored her hair purple.

I then added black to the bird on her head to represent a crow, a psychopomp (guide of souls to the Otherworld).

And here She is in all her beauty! :)

She is a Queen, so I gave her a crown.

This is a study I made on ancient motifs depicted on stone, wood, ceramics.

I'll show you my method for creating patterns as long as guide you through the process of identifying yours.

The workbook contains also 13 new patterns and beautiful artwork made with them by my talented fellow tanglers.

I am very proud if it. It is my first "solo" adventure in publishing an ebook and I am so excited!

13 Goddesses Challenge - Week #3: JAPANESE - TOMAYORI-HIME

The 13 GODDESSES CHALLENGE is spreading around!

This week's prompt is Japanese Goddess.

I chose

*TOMAYORI-HIME*

She is a Water Goddess, mother of the hero Daida and daughter of a sea-dragon god.

Her name can be translated as "Woman possessed by a God".

She is linked to the Ocean's Depths and moving water and is a Goddess of Renewal.

Maybe I used too much yellow... ehmmm... 

 Better. :)

 I love that little dragon! 

The Kanji (Japanese writing character) on the right means "dragon".

13 Goddesses Challenge - Week #2: CELTIC or NORDIC - CERRIDWEN

Here we go with our second week of the

13 GODDESSES CHALLENGE!

* CERRIDWEN*

Lately I am beeing fascinated by dark or old Goddesses.

Like Cerridwen.

She is a Celtic Welsh Goddess and Enchantress of Transformation, stirring in her cauldron a potion that grants wisdom and inspiration.

She is a Shapeshifter and a Goddess of Rebirth: she ate Gwion Bach, became pregnant and gave birth to the famous bard Taliesin.

The meaning of her name is controversial. It could be translated as either "Croocked Woman" or "White/Pure Woman".

This time I remembered to take pics while drawing my goddess! :)

First I sketched her face in my handmade journal.

Then I started to create skin tones using watersoluble pastels and my (almost dead) paper blender.

Added the Cauldron.

Don't ask me why I chose these colors for her hair. It came to me that way. :)
Maybe it's for her double nature: death and rebirth.

Adding final touches.

And here she is!

13 Goddesses Challenge - Week #1: Russian - Baba Yaga

*BABA YAGA*

One of the fairytales characters I am working with lately is the Slavic Witch Baba Yaga. 

She is considered by many a very ancient Goddess and so do I.

The name Baba Yaga can be translated from Slavic languages as "Grandma Witch" or "Grandma Snake", but the etymology of the word "yaga" is still uncertain.

Baba Yaga lives in the woods in a hut that walks on chicken legs and she flies in a mortar, holding a pestle. Sometimes she is depicted as a trio of sisters. 

She is an old, hugly and wise woman, sometimes rude or wicked, but she reveals the truth to those who know how to ask.

Here is my interpretation.

(I totally forgot to take pictures while drawing it, so for this weeks there will be only the finished artwork. SORRY!)

Materials used: acrylics, watersoluble pastels, charcoal pencil, stencils, Uniposca markers.
As you know, I love tangles and doodles and I always add some to each of my artworks. :)

Are You Ready for 13 Goddesses Challenge? My Cover

I have been busy this week working on 3 projects! Pant... pant...

That time of the year that I like less (Summer!Hot Summer!) is slowly approaching and I need to distract myself.

I will tell you about my other projects next week.

Today I'm going to show you the cover I have made for 

13 GODDESSES IN 13 WEEKS CHALLENGE

I took some photos of the process.

I started by creating my journal from scratch (I want to keep all my Goddesses together).

I used Fabriano Academia drawing and Watercolor paper.

The sheets are large, so I folded them in two.

I made 3 holes and tied all pages together.

With an old credit card I smeared some acrylic colors on the covers. 

I used Purple, Pink and Light Green.

Let the fun begin!!

I cut some pics from a vintage book and glued them to the covers.

(The face and the flower are two separate elements)

I then covered the face and flower with white acrylic.

Once dry I worked on the image with Neocolor Watersoluble Pastels and Charcoal Pencil,

and completed the cover with Black and White Uniposcas.

I'm not very happy with lettering, but I know this is not one of my best skills. Hehehehe!!

(I'll show you the back cover at the end of this journey!)

Now I am ready to start my first Goddess!!

I do love synchronicities, and this course popped out while I am working on a couple of fairytales for an art workshop project.
